APD is a brain processing issue, not a hearing problem. Kids with APD can often hear sounds perfectly — their ears work fine. The challenge is in how the brain interprets and makes sense of those sounds, especially in noisy environments. It can affect listening, reading, spelling, following directions, and more.

APD must be diagnosed by an audiologist who specializes in auditory processing. Testing is completed in a sound-treated booth using specialized equipment and recorded test materials. It requires a current hearing evaluation (within the past 6 months) before testing can begin. We test children as young as 3.5 and adults up to age 60.

We are an out-of-network, private pay practice. We provide superbills after sessions that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Many families receive partial reimbursement depending on their out-of-network benefits. We also accept Step Up for Students scholarship funds for eligible students.

Absolutely — and honestly, that's one of the things that makes us unique. Many of our families receive both audiology and counseling services with Dr. Aimee because the needs are often interconnected.

Yes! Auditory therapy and certain counseling services are available via telehealth for families across Florida. APD evaluations require in-person attendance due to the specialized testing equipment.
